Well with ELP done touring they are probably going to take a much needed break. I was wondering if anyone out there has heard any rumors about ELP returning to the studio to do another new CD. Judging by the way they presented themselves on stage, and the interviews I read and saw, it seems highly likely that we will see another ELP CD release in the next year. ELP TANK CD My brother-in-law bought me an ELP CD called "Tank" at a record convention here in Chicago. The CD is on Buccaneer Records (Number BUC 046). It claims to have been recorded live at the Anaheim Music Center during the 73/74 World Tours. But, it contains Tiger In A Spotlight, C'est La Vie, and Fanfare which weren't recorded until the late 70's. The Songs on the CD are: 1. Hoedown (4:26) 2. Still You Turn Me On (3:27) 3. Lucky Man (2:41) 4. Piano Improvisation (6:58) 5. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression (11:34) 6. Drum Solo (4:16) 7. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression pt. 2 (1:54) 8. Karn Evil 9 2nd Impression pt. 1 (6:25) 9. 2nd Impression (2:55) 10. 3rd Impression (6:42) 11. Tiger In A Spotlight (4:21) 12. C'est La Vie (4:15) 13. Tank/Enemy of God (3:57) 14. Fanfare For The Common Man (8:18) All of the listings for Karn Evil are listed on the CD as Karl Evil. The Jacket is chocked full of typos like: Keith Emerson - Keyboards / Guitars / Vocals Carl Palmer - Drums / Percussion / Backing Vocals Gregg Lake - Guitars / Backing Vocals I never knew Keith could sing! :) But what would you expect from an Italian bootleg company. REVIEW 1. Hoedown - A direct copy of the version on WBMFTTSTNELAGELP. [ Editor's note to the potentially confused: WBMFTTSTNELAGELP is "Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends, Ladies and Gentlemen... Emerson, Lake & Palmer" perhaps the longest album title in history? ] 2. Still You Turn Me On - Not from a previously released album and is ok. It's the acoustic Greg Lake solo version. 3. Lucky Man - Another Greg Lake solo version and is pretty good but doesn't stand up to the Royal Albert Hall version (IMHO). 4. The Piano Improvisation - Typical Keith Emerson cutting loose on the ivories. I can't tell if it's lifted from WBMFTTSTNELAGELP. It could be, but I lent my Japanese Import WBMFTTSTNELAGELP to my cousin and can't tell from memory if it was lifted. But I think it was because all the same passages are in this improvisation as in WBMFTTSTNELAGELP. 5. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression - I think this one is different than on WBMFTTSTNELAGELP because the intro is different. 6. Drum Solo - Typical Carl Palmer Drum solo complete with gongs and bell. 7. Karn Evil 9 1st Impression pt. 2 - Not from WBMFTTSTNELAGELP and a good performance. 8. Karn Evil 9 2nd Impression pt. 1 - Also not from WBMFTTSTNELAGELP and very solid. 9. 2nd Impression - Not stolen from WBMFTTSTNELAGELP, vocals are a little off in places but still a good performance. 10. 3rd Impression - Not stolen from WBMFTTSTNELAGELP, very good performance. 11. Tiger In A Spotlight - I think this was stolen from ELP In Concert because the solo in the middle is exactly the same as it is on the In Concert album. I am not sure though because the ending sounds different. I'll have to give In Concert another listen. 12. C'est La Vie - This is definately not stolen from In Concert because there is no orchestra on this version. 13. Tank/Enemy of God - A nice version of this song. Carl Palmer really makes this song stand out. And as in Tiger in a spotlight, I'm not sure if this track was lifted from In Concert. Although I don't think it was. 14. Fanfare For The Common Man - This is definately not a previously released version of this song and is really great. It was played on the GX1. And is more like the studio version as far as the arrangement with a nice solo ala Keith in the middle. Great! The sound quality on all the tracks is very good. You can clearly hear all of the insruments. Who ever recorded this obviously was hooked into the main board. In conclusion - While some of the tracks (Hoedown especially) were lifted from previously released albums the rest of the stuff is a must for ELP completist collectors like myself. The CD was $24.95 and there is no address obviously on the jacket for Buccaneer Records as they could probably get into some copyright trouble if found. So look for record swapping conventions near you and pick yourself up a copy of this. Fanfare alone is almost worth the price.
