[ Editor's note: Sorry for the delay between issues of the ELP Digest. The good news is that the back issues are now all available by anonymous ftp (more in this Digest). Nest on my list of "promised items" is the ELP Interview I have received permission to republish from Seconds Magazine. I hope that will be out in the next few weeks. Doug David (doug@tellabs.com) writes: >NEW ELP MATERIAL? > > Well with ELP done touring they are probably going to take a much needed >break. I was wondering if anyone out there has heard any rumors about ELP >returning to the studio to do another new CD. Judging by the way they >presented themselves on stage, and the interviews I read and saw, it >seems highly likely that we will see another ELP CD release in the next year. In the last flyer from David Terralavoro (publisher of the ELP fanzine "Fanzine For The Common Man"), he mentions that the band plans to return to the studio to begin work on a new album in July, and that another video is also being considered. >ELP TANK CD > >My brother-in-law bought me an ELP CD called "Tank" at a record convention >here in Chicago. The CD is on Buccaneer Records (Number BUC 046). It claims >to have been recorded live at the Anaheim Music Center during the 73/74 World >Tours. But, it contains Tiger In A Spotlight, C'est La Vie, and Fanfare which >weren't recorded until the late 70's. This sounds a whole lot like another bootleg, called "Smashing The Piano." I wonder if this is a pirate of a boot? >All of the listings for Karn Evil are listed on the CD as Karl Evil. Perhaps they know something we don't! :-> >Keith Emerson - Keyboards / Guitars / Vocals >Carl Palmer - Drums / Percussion / Backing Vocals >Gregg Lake - Guitars / Backing Vocals > >I never knew Keith could sing! :) Heh, I don't think this has anything to do with KE's listing there, but he did the "computer voice" on Karn Evil 9 Third Impression. If anyone is really interested in hearing what Keith's singing sounds like, though, the place to look is the soundtrack album to the Sylvester Stallone movie "Nighthawks." Keith sings the 60's pop tune "I'm A Man" on that album. I think he's wise to generally leave the singing to others... More than likely this recording is from several shows. On a Led Zeppelin boot I have a Plant single Sixes and Sevens from late eighties is credited as Zep in the seventies. There are several boots available on CD should I post a list and where to mail order them? Dave W PS. I saw a cassette boot of the MPLS show last Feb at a local show here. Anyone else have discography of ELP boots etc. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jun 93 07:34:19 +0100 From: "Pete Cole" To: J.Arnold@bull.com Subject: ELP Digest V3 #10 > Keith Emerson - Keyboards / Guitars / Vocals > Carl Palmer - Drums / Percussion / Backing Vocals > Gregg Lake - Guitars / Backing Vocals > > I never knew Keith could sing! :) > I always thought that Keith sange Karn Evil 9 !st Impression Part 1 ... didn't he do this live as well ? Sounds like him on WBMFTTSTNELAGELP ... In fact, I remember a radio interview with Carl Palmer back when he was promoting 1 PM (stop sniggering at the back, there), and he said that one of the prime reasons that ELP broke up was because Keith & Carl wanted to do more backing vocals ... and Lake wanted nothing to do with the idea ! I have heard him make quite a few ELP/Brain Salad Surgery quips at various times, and just last week on an HBO comedy special, he remarks to Paul Schaeffer, "What was that? Some kind of ARP 2600 riff?" or something to that effect followed by another ELP quip. I am very new to Internet...a Prodigy refugee. Someone on P* told me of a mailing list devoted to progressive rock. Unfortunately, these things don't seem too easy to find! All that he knew was that the word "gibraltar" was part of the address. Does anyone know the correct address? -Jeff Kushner(Baltimore) [ Editor's note: I've already sent Jeff a reply detailing the email adress of the Gibraltar progressive rock mailing list. It's gib@mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu. My experience is that the Gibraltar list is a place to learn about new Prog Rock bands. Bands like ELP and Yes are mentioned but usually as a starting point for describing other bands. Discussions of those more well-known or established bands is typically left to places like Notes From the Edge (the Yes email newsletter) and here (for ELP). There are also mailing lists for Genesis and many other bands. - John - ] ------------------------------ Date: 29 Jun 93 16:19:35 EDT From: Damien DeSimone <71221.2364@CompuServe.COM> To: ELP Subject: NEW ROBERT BERRY CD Hello: Robert Berry has just released a new solo album, "Pilgrimage To A Point." I'm not in any way connected with Leonardo Entertainment; I'm just letting everyone know that the CD is out and where to get it, as I don't know if it will pop up in many record stores! See ya! -Damien- (Please send *all mail* to 5545135@mcimail.com) PS - The cover art for the CD in the ad I have looks like a Roger Dean cover, but I can't imagine he would do cover art for a Robert Berry album! ------------------------------ To: arnold Subject: ELP Digest back issues available via ftp (finally)! Reply-To: J.Arnold@ma30.bull.com Date: Thu, 15 Jul 93 09:24:31 -0400 From: arnold Hi! I've finally bundled up all the back issues of the ELP Digest and placed them at one of the most popular music archive sites on the internet. Here's the information: Anonymous FTP site: ftp.uwp.edu (log in with user name "anonymous" and password as you email address) directories: /pub/music/lists/elp/1991 /1992 /1993 (in these directories, each issue is available as a compressed (.Z) file) If you need any help, please ask around your site for help with ftp. Most exerienced Unix users are familiar with the basics. If you get absolutely stuck, please ask me and I'll see what I can do. Thanks for your patience with this. I've been promising this for a long time and finally got around to doing it! Enjoy! - John - ------------------------------ End of ELP Digest [Volume 3 Issue 11] *************************************
