Included are new trivia questions, new photos, and an incredible page called WERE YOU THERE? which lists EVERY show Greg Lake has ever played at. We encourage Lake fans to sign on and tell us via e mail what their favorite shows have been. We will post the best ones on the site. Also, later this week, THE GREG LAKE GIFT CATALOG goes up on the website. We will be offering limited edition T shirts and hats, including special T shirts autographed in permanent ink by Greg Lake. Finally, we are offering a new, expanded LIMITED EDITION version of GREG LAKE IN CONCERT ON THE KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR, with bonus tracks. Each CD is numbered and autographed by Greg Lake. Please get this info up on the site and let people know that changes are happening each day. They need to keep checking back on a regualr basis to catch the drift. Also, starting in January we will be mailing the first edition of ON THE LAKE FRONT, a 6 page Greg Lake newsletter. If you haven't already sent your name, address, e mail address and other related info to: Brucetune@aol.com. Do so now! You won't want to miss the first collector's edition. That's it for today. PLEASE SPREAD THE NEWS ASAP. Thanks! End of rave. Bruce Pilato [ Editor's Note: Due to my own work and family schedule over Christmas and New Year's, you're just hearing about this now. I am trying to piece together accurate transcriptions of the Keith Emerson's music on the album entitled Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Trilogy, Tarkus, and Brain Salad Surgery, my favorite piano music, especially the 2ND IMPRESSION ON SIDE TWO OF BRAIN SALAD SURGERY, AN AWSOME PIANO SOLO. HELP! I currently have a music book entitled Emerson, Lake and Palmer dated in the early 70's including Take a Pebble & Trilogy. They are very accurate transcriptions. Do you know of anyone who has the improvisation parts that were not included in this book for these songs? I also have a music book entitled Emerson, Lake & Palmer-Tarkus that appears to be published in 1980 by Manticore Music LTD., with Warner Bros. Publications Inc. at 75 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY 10019 listed as the Exclusive Selling Agent for the United States and Canada. I would like [...] this book and can't find anyone who has one. Any suggestions? I also have a music book entitled Emerson, Lake & Palmer-Anthology. This includes the Fuge which I believe is the part between Endless Enigma (Part 1) and Endless Enigma (Part 2). I understand that there is another music book entitled Emerson, Lake & Palmer-Greatest hits, but the only song in this book that is not in previous books is the 1st Impression (Part 2) from Brain Salad Surgery. What else is available and where do I get it? I really appreciate any help that anyone could give me, including other web sites that may be of help. Sincerely, Bob Frace Kjkono@aol.com [ Editor's Note: Just a reminder to look at the ELP web site's Sheet Music, MIDI file, etc. section for a description of a shareware plan that lets people who have transcribed Emerson's music share it with others as long as Keith gets a shareware fee. A little known fact about the show was that the musical score had been written by Keith Emerson. Well, if you did not know that before you did after the first few bars of the show. The keyboard player Alan did a great job and it was clearly Keith's work. The music was great and even included a little ballet scene. My favourite was the opening score and a piece inspired by Pirates. At the end of the show as we walked out with a smile on our face we saw Keith sitting in the stalls. We politely asked for his autograph which he kindly gave me on the programme and I introduced him to my family. Although he must get lots of requests from fans it was a real thrill to have a conversation with him after nearly 30 years of listening to his music from 5 Bridges to Black Moon, Lucky Man to Starship. What a thrill and a lovely end to a super evening. The panto was good but the music was better and a first night premiere to. Hurry and rush to Bristol!!! If you talk to Keith, please say a very big thankyou! Merry Christmas! ------------------------------ Date: 23 Dec 1996 12:51:09 Z From: To: arnold@dartmouth.coordinate.com (Receipt notification requested) Subject: Summing up! At the end of another year its time to sum up. After the lull of `95 (except for the wonderful ELP Convention, Liv!), '96 has been a one of the really great ELP years, and with promises for the future. The following are just SOME of the highlights: A new ELP Magazine in color - "Impressions" - already with two issues! The ELP Back catalogue reissued by Rhino (known for its serious dealings with artists)! Brain Salad Surgery reissued with "holographic" cover, bonus Interview and the best ELP article I've ever seen! Both Greg and Keith with their own Home Pages and lots of info and pictures, finally even a glimpse from Keith's Autobiography! And of course - the tour! Physically it showed that both Keith's hand, Greg's voice and Carl's hands seem back in shape after some years of problems! Psychologically it showed that the boys really enjoy playing abd being together - there was even a picture on Keith's "Close to Home" page of Keith and Greg "making it up" (whatever that meant)! Progression had a long interview with Carl! The Dec 6th issue of Goldmine had a loong, loving and interesting article on ELP and "Welcome to the show". In Goldmine they hinted at making a new album - concentrating on progressive pieces - which would hinder the nauseating thought that "In The Hot Seat" (which I personally still enjoy parts of!) and its Californian AOL direction, should be their final word together! The "Live at the Royal Albert Hall" video is out (at least to Impressions Subscribers) both in PAL and NTSC format! A "Best of ELP" song book is out! And general books on music are beginning to treat ELP fairly - some even reappraising their achivements, like "Virgin's Rock Dictionary" (or whatever its called)! A serious new book is out - "Rocking the Classics - English Progressive Rock and the Counterculture" by Edward Macan - giving ELP their proper due! And the big new authorative Norwegian book on popular music - "Wow" - deals fairly with prog, its ambition and successes. There's a whole page on ELP mentioning among other things their great ability to improvise and that Keith "literarely played to he bled" - which may be a hot thing to read for Norwegian youngsters of Viking descendants... And what about '97? Rhino will release several compilations of solo material from all band members! Keith is now a member of The Artist Shop (a cooperative store for independent and artist owned labels) which at least makes me believe his authobiography will be released! I believe there may be even greater things in store! So a Happy New Year, everyone! And don't forget to vote for ELP in Record Collector!!!! "Magna Carta's keyboard hall of fame series volume 1" contains 12 "great works performed by the virtuosos of rock". So reads the cover of the 8 page insert to the CD. The insert contains a liner note written by Keith Emerson who starts the CD off with a studio version of Ginastera's "Creole Dance". Some years ago he was severely wound at the head; he was submitted to several delicate surgeries and some doctors told him that he never could play piano again. However, he was completely recovered and, to show that, the last piece of his concert was a "tour de force" - it was just Tocatta, from Ginastera! It was a pleasant surprise to recognize it, as I only heard it in the spectacular ELP version. Today I was even more surprised: I was hearing the track "The Making of Brain Salad Surgery", in the latest release of BSS by Rhyno Records, when I almost fall from the chair when Keith Emerson told that he first heard Tocatta in L.A., 1969, in a TV program, and it was played by Jose Carlos Martins!! I am really very glad to know that a Brazilian piano player had some responsability in generating the spark that produced the most impressionant rock adaptation of a classic piece. Now, ***for Godness sake!***, anybody knows where I can buy the CD of the 1st Piano Concerto of Ginastera? I search for this CD in several countries of Europe and in the Net, but I did not find it. John I would be grateful if you would post the following in the next digest In one of my previous incarnations (i.e. FUNKYB@GLOBALNET.CO.UK) I asked the question "Who said SHIT at the beginning of the sheriff". I'd like to say thanks to all who replied. It was the overwhelming opinion that it was Carl (Even though you yourself John thought it was Keith's voice), although no-one was able to give the definitive reason why, apart from the fact that it was some sort of Drumming Gaff. On to my next trivial question. Approximately 1min 55 secs into Karn Evil 9's second impression on the Brain Salad Surgery album (Just after what sounds like a Steel Drum solo) There are a couple of phrases uttered in what sounds like Spanish/Mexican. Could anyone give me a translation?. As for my next not so trivial question. In volume 6 Issue 9 of the digest a Joe Gerardi gave an excerpt from an email he received from Will Alexander in which he stated that midi files of ELP songs were being produced. I have emailed Mr. Alexander for information such as, which songs are being transcribed, how much will they cost, and how can I get a copy. However his reply was conspicuous by its absence. Has anyone heard if this project is still going ahead. [ Editor's Note: This posting was received when ELP was still no tour last fall. At that time, Will hadn't been answering any mail since he was still on tour. I'm sure all of Keith's/Will's projects got slowed down since their energies were going into the tour.
