Track 4 has Roy Harper on vocals. Track 6 is a studio version without the orchestra and the lyrics are more distinct on this version. The 1st and 5th bridge are not part of it and the 3rd bridge has a "church organ" feel with different piano solos. Track 7 is a studio version. Track 8 has some great piano/organ interaction in it. The vocals on tracks 2 and 9 are distinctly different from the regular versions. Track 10 has an unusual intro and I would make a comparison of what has been done here with "Get To You" to what was done to "My Back Pages". It also is split into a piano 1st part leading into an organ 2nd part. The "Take A Pebble" ostinato can be found embedded in the piano part too! It's a music education game and I was asked to draw the main character playing a number of musical instruments. I therefore took the opportunity to do a tribute to my favorite band. I recently visited a Mike Oldfield (as in Tubular Bell fame) page. One of the things that I found on that page was access to various of his musical pieces available to the Internet Sufer as Midi and Wav files for listening/downloading pleasure. I felt that was a really good idea because it enable people that were not familiar with all of his music , to be able to listen to excerpts and thus further spreading his musical talents. I think i can answer some of them and i would like to add something with respect to the best elp performance subject: 1. elp performed benny the bouncy during their 2 concerts in duesseldorf, germany in may 1974. therefore i assume they did so throughout the whole germany tour in 1974. to answer the question who did the singing, it was greg for sure, keith was much to busy hammering the hell out of his ragtimetype piano to spend even a moment on singing. 2. during the epic show of the 31st march 1973 in duesseldorf, germany they performed the sheriff instead of benny the bouncer. this might answer the question with respect to the welcome back album. the whole recording sounds like the 1974 germany tour, but the sheriff was obviously recorded during a 73 show. you can clearly hear the sound quality difference on the record. there were the same sound quality differences with the 73 and 74 germany tours. I assume they exchanged most of the PA equipment for the 74 tour. In 1974 they had installed a quadrophonic pa instead of the standard pa of 1973 during this 73 show they perfomed abbadon's bolero. i think they didn't do that very often. it was great even though they couldnot do the fade in type evolution of the song's loudness. i can remember this clearly because the 1973 show was the best elp performance i ever saw out of the 10 shows i attended between 1971 and 1992. all shows were great and the 1992 show in frankfurt come close, but this one really was special in all affairs. It started with a total disaster because an equipment truck broke down on its way to duesseldorf and most of the stuff had to be assembled in record time in front of an eagerly waiting crowd of 10000 fans stuffed into a 7000 seat (3000 faked tickets !!) hall. elp were on stage to talk with the audience while everybody else was swirling around the stage. the concert started with a 3 hours delay and elp played almost 4 hours to honor the fans' discipline to wait 5 hours from door opening without any quarrel. keith gave a promise to play as long as we wanted at the beginning of the show, i assume he must have regretted this promise at the end because all 3 were totally exhausted, but this end was nothing but a triumph. in my opinion it is this elp respect for their fans which guarantees them our lifetime loyalty. just a great moment that i will never forget. I hope elp will show up again in germany soon, hey guys we are waiting for you. best wishes to you john and to all elp fans bernd prott ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 09 Jan 1997 19:36:30 +0000 From: Carl Henriksen To: arnold@dartmouth.coordinate.com Subject: ELP First off, thank you for keeping up a wonderful web-page on Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Secondly, I was wondering if you knew of any books that deal with ELP specifically, or of any books that have even just a chapter on them. This would be most helpful for a research project I am considering. Thank you very much for your time. My opinion is that are children jesting another one. I did not understand well all the words, but one of them seems to be (at least for me) "bobinho" or "boboquinho" that, in Spanish/Portuguese language, could be translated as "little fool" or something like that. However, this is only (perhaps one more) version to these phrases... I also would like to know a more *definitive* version!
