However, there is some time-sensitive information that I wanted to pass along to Digest readers. There's a contest (being run by ClearChannel UK - ccLive.co.uk) to win tickets and a Meet and Greet for each of the Keith Emerson and The Nice shows! The contest ends Oct. 15 but, obviously, will end earlier for the shows that start tomorrow! Good luck! - John - ------------------------------------------------------------ From: John Arnold [arnold@reluctant.com] Sent: Monday, October 06, 2003 5:42 PM To: elp-digest@reluctant.com Subject: Win a chance to Meet/Greet Keith Emerson and the Nice The KeithEmerson.com site has posted a link to a contest being run by ClearChannel in the UK to Meet/Greet Keith Emerson & The Nice at one of the 12 upcoming shows. URLS: http://www.ccLive.co.uk/KeithEmerson http://www.keithemerson.com/TourInfo/TourInfo.html According to the terms and conditions at the contest site, this contest will end on Oct. 15. However, since there are 2 tickets to be given away for each of the 12 shows starting Oct. 8, if you want a chance to win for the earlier shows, you'll need to enter earlier. Just wanted to let you know since I'm sure those of you who are able to attend any of these shows may want to enter. If you win, please write up your story and share it with the ELP Digest readers. I wanted to let you know that I've posted a very recent interview with Keith Emerson on the ELP Digest (brain-salad.com) web site. Courtesy of Phil Gorner at the Lancashire Evening Post (Preston, England), you can find it at the following URL: http://www.brain-salad.com/InterviewsArticles/InterviewsArticles.html Thanks Phil! - John - ------------------------------ From: John Arnold [arnold@reluctant.com] Sent: Monday, October 06, 2003 5:51 PM To: elp-digest@reluctant.com Subject: Minor correction to last issue (ELP Digest Vol. 13 #9) In the last ELP Digest, a reviewer of one of Carl's drum clinics mentioned that he sat with one of the promoter's of the event. This was a mistake. We have since learned that the person in question (Tony) is working on a possible ELP DVD project but is not a promoter. The mistake has been corrected on the copy of that edition on the web site (brain-salad.com). Sorry for the mistake. Thanks for the opportunity for me to correct it. - John - ------------------------------ From: Buzz Delano [buzzdelano@cox.net] Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2003 5:48 PM To: ELP-digest@reluctant.com Subject: Any Digest Readers attending the 10/16-17 shows? Hi John, Anyone on the Digest planning to attend the Oct 16 and 17 Nice shows? I'd like to hook up with someone doing so as I will be in London for business around the same time! They have an orchestra and played the hell out of it. Well, I'm trying to tell people that Sergei Prokofiev's R & J score rocks but they don't believe me until I turn them on to ELP's R & J and that is a tribute to Prokofiev's "Dance of Knights" (amongst other names). So, all I can say is I wish Keith would do more classical stuff. Another piano concerto, a few more ballet ripoffs (like Nutrocker) and the like. That would be so sweet. I can view the video segments on Quicktime, but I just cannot open pictures that are supposed to be in the CD. Everytime I try, it says that I need Image Expert Premium Edition (I only have the standard edition). Can I use other programs to view the pictures?? Thanks!! He was talking about the upcoming Christmas show with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and he described it as an "Emerson Lake & Palmer-ish" event, i.e. an elaborate production. Prior to yesterday, I don't think I've ever heard ELP used as an adjective. Also, just wanted to add my thoughts regarding Greg's voice over the past decade or so. I was somewhat disappointed when I heard him in the early 90's - he was very raspy. This was particularly noticeable when he did his acoustic solos. He certainly sounded better each time I heard him in the late 90's and I'd say that his performance with Ringo was the best I've heard since the 70's. His voice was certainly deeper, but the raspiness was gone. Unfortunately, he did not play an acoustic piece the night I saw him. I'm curious as to how he sounded when he played Still.... on other tour dates. In any case I would guess that the improvement over the past few years must be attributable to his giving up the cigarettes.
