To: "John Arnold" From: "Tom Hessemer" Subject: ELP Memories Date: 8/7/98 3:54 PM My first concert when I was 15 years old was ELP at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY on February 10th, 1978. 200 or so concert (of other acts) later, I still have not witnessed anyone perform on the keyboards like Keith Emerson. I was blown away by the set that opened with Peter Gunn. Last night (20 years later - August 6th), I saw the band at the PNC Bank Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. My brother & I both had reservations about seeing the show. My brother compared it to seeing an old relative that you would prefer to remember when they were younger and in their prime. We were in a for a surprise! We both were left wanting more. Unfortunately the set was short because Deep Purple still had to perform. We were both excited about the amount of Tarkus that was served up and Greg Lake's vocals fared very well. Keith and Carl certainly have not lost it either. We did see Emerson, Lake, & Powell back in 1986 at Brendan Byrne Arena and Madison Square Garden and both felt that Greg's vocals were showing their age at the time. Tom Hessemer Age 36 Westfield, NJ
